Blunt's - Your Local Melbourne Electrician

Terms & Conditions

By booking our services, accepting a quotation, or paying a deposit, you agree to these terms. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).

Payments

Payment is due immediately upon completion of work unless otherwise stated in writing. A deposit invoice will be issued for jobs valued over $2,000 prior to commencement. Progress payments may be required for jobs exceeding 5 days or where circumstances beyond Blunt’s operational control delay completion. Overdue accounts: invoices unpaid after 7 days may incur a 5% overdue fee; if still unpaid at 30 days, an additional 5% may apply as a genuine estimate of our added admin/financing costs. We may on-charge reasonable debt-recovery costs where permitted by law. Accepted payment methods and any card surcharges appear on the invoice.

Workmanship Warranty

All labour and installation work is covered by a 5-year workmanship warranty from the date of completion. This excludes misuse, fair wear and tear, damage by third parties, and faults in products or equipment.

Product Supply & Quality

We source quality products from trusted suppliers; all items supplied are subject to their own manufacturer warranties and terms.

Manufacturer Warranty Claims

Manufacturer defects are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. We’ll assist where practical; however, site visits for assessment or removal/reinstallation are chargeable at our standard call-out and labour rates unless the manufacturer covers these costs.

Smart Devices

We complete initial setup only. Ongoing programming, app/account issues, Wi-Fi/network changes, vendor firmware updates, and third-party ecosystem changes (e.g., Apple/Google/Alexa) are outside scope and will be chargeable if further visits are requested.

Cable Access & Wall Penetrations

We take care to minimise impact. Where access holes are needed in walls, ceilings, or other surfaces, patching/painting/plastering is excluded. Minor touch-ups may be performed where practical but final finishes are to be performed by others.

Cabinetry & Appliance Fitment

You are responsible for confirming that customer-supplied appliances (e.g., ovens, rangehoods) fit existing cabinetry/cut-outs. If modifications are required, we’ll seek your approval before proceeding; additional charges apply. Final approach is at the attending electrician’s discretion for safety and practicality.

Quoted Price Scope

Quotes are based on standard conditions and the scope agreed at the time of quoting. If site conditions differ, concealed issues are discovered, or you request changes, we’ll provide a variation for approval before proceeding. Quotes are valid for 30 days unless stated otherwise and may be reviewed if supplier prices change materially.

Cancellations After Approval

Once a quote is accepted, we may order materials and reserve labour. If you cancel after approval, you’re liable for non-returnable/special-order items at cost and any supplier restocking/return and freight fees (on-charged at the invoiced amounts). Where we’ve incurred travel/admin time to collect/return goods, a handling charge may apply (up to one standard call-out). Cancellations within 1 business day of the scheduled start may attract a short-notice fee (up to one standard call-out) if we cannot rebook the slot. This does not limit your ACL rights.

Rescheduling

You can reschedule once at no charge with at least 1 full business day’s notice before your booked start time. Reschedules inside 1 business day may attract a short-notice fee (up to one standard call-out) if we cannot rebook the slot. Please reschedule in writing (email is fine).

Photos & Media (Assumed Consent with Opt-Out)

To document work quality, compliance, and safety, we may take before/after photos or short videos of the work area. Marketing use: we may use de-identified images (e.g., product installations, switchboards) for portfolio/socials unless you opt out in writing before the job begins. We avoid faces, street numbers, and personal identifying items. Compliance photos required for certificates/records may be retained even if you opt out of marketing.

Access, Safety & Site Conditions

Provide safe, timely access, including parking, lift bookings, and clear work areas. Please secure pets and remove fragile items from work zones. We may refuse or pause work if access is unsafe (e.g., brittle roofing, wet conditions, suspected asbestos, inadequate lighting). Discovery of hazardous materials (eg. asbestos) will be treated as a variation and may require licensed remediation before work continues.

Approvals, Compliance & Certificates

You are responsible for obtaining owner/landlord/body-corporate approvals and any builder/strata permissions. We carry out electrical work in accordance with Victorian requirements and issue and lodge a Certificate of Electrical Safety (COES) where required; prescribed work may also require inspection by a Licensed Electrical Inspector before energisation. We provide the COES to you and lodge it with Energy Safe Victoria within required timeframes.

Variations & Latent Conditions

Hidden defects (e.g., degraded cabling, non-compliant prior work, undersized circuits, concealed services), additional circuits/outlets, switchboard upgrades, or distributor/metering requirements are outside the original scope. We will notify you and provide a priced variation before proceeding.

Parking, Tolls & Access Fees

Where applicable, parking costs, tolls, and access fees (e.g., loading dock bookings) are on-charged at cost with receipt.

After-Hours & Public Holidays

Work performed outside standard hours or on public holidays will attract after-hours rates and a minimum call-out will be quoted in advance.

Service Area & Travel

Our core service area is Metropolitan Melbourne. Jobs outside this area may attract a travel fee (quoted in advance). Waiting time caused by access delays may be charged at standard labour rates.

Waste & Environmental Handling

Packaging and general waste are removed. Special disposal (e.g., lamps containing mercury, e-waste, contaminated materials) may attract an environmental handling fee at cost.

Promotions, Discounts & Thank-You Cards

Promotions (flyers, website, email/SMS) exclude dispatch fees (where charged), are single-use, one per job/invoice, not combinable, have no cash value, and can’t be applied retrospectively. $25 Thank-You cards follow the same rules and must be handed to the attending technician at the visit (or noted at booking before invoicing).

Title & Risk

Title to goods supplied remains with us until payment in full. Risk in goods passes on delivery/installation. We may retrieve unfixed goods if payment is not made, subject to applicable laws.

Liability & ACL

Your ACL rights include consumer guarantees that services will be provided with due care and skill and be fit for purpose; remedies may include repair, replacement, refund, or re-supply depending on the issue. For non-consumer customers and only to the extent permitted by law, our liability for services is limited to re-supplying the services or paying the cost of having the services re-supplied. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss except where required by law.
