LED Lighting & Lighting Upgrades
At a glance (why LED):
- Up to 80% less power than halogens
- Much cooler operation (reduced fire risk)
- Long life with fewer callouts
- Flicker-free options, high colour accuracy (CRI 90+), and smooth dimming
Halogen downlight replacements (to LED)
Old halogens run hot and chew power. We remove the halogen fitting and install a plug base with your new integrated LED downlight. Because quality LEDs don’t use “globes”, the plug base makes future like-for-like swaps simple - unplug, replace, done.
Why our approach is better
- Safety & compliance: IC-4-rated options where suitable; correct drivers; tidy terminations.
- Flicker-free dimming: We match drivers and dimmers to prevent buzz, flicker, and dead zones.
Colour & beam: 2700–3000K for cosy, 4000K neutral for kitchens/laundry; beam angles sized for your ceiling height and room.
Replace one central light with a few well-placed downlights
One light in the middle makes harsh shadows and bright “hot spots.” A small grid of downlights spreads light evenly, so the room feels bigger, calmer, and easier on the eyes.
How we set it up (plain English):
- Even coverage: We place lights so benches, sofas and corners are lit properly - no dark patches, no airport-runway look.
- Zones you can control: We put areas like dining, living and kitchen benches on their own switches/dimmers. Bright for cooking, softer for dinner, cosy for movie night.
- Less glare: We choose fittings and aim them so they don’t bounce off the TV, glossy bench tops or artwork.
That’s it: better light, better mood, and simple controls that fit how you use the room.
LED strip lighting (kitchens, pelmets, bathrooms, WIR)
Done right, strip lighting is the secret sauce - clean, functional, and beautiful.
Where & why
- Under-cabinet: Shadow-free prep areas; splashback highlights.
- Island & kickers: Floating effect and subtle night light.
- Pelmets & coves: Soft, indirect glow for living rooms and hallways.
- Bathrooms & mirrors: Clear lighting with appropriate IP ratings.
- Walk-in robes (WIR): Even illumination along shelves and hanging rails so colours look true and outfits are easy to see.
How we do strips properly
- Aluminium profiles with diffusers (longer life, no “dotty” look)
- Right drivers & wiring (correct wattage/voltage for full brightness and reliability)
- High-CRI strips to keep fabrics, timber, food, and skin tones looking natural
- Optional smart control for schedules and scenes
Track lighting (flexible & future-proof)
Track lighting is brilliant when layouts change or you want to highlight art, joinery, or a kitchen bench.
Benefits
- Adjustable heads to aim light where you need it
- Reconfigurable - add, move, or remove heads without new holes
- Perfect for art walls and long galley kitchens
- Great for rentals/renos where flexibility matters
Technical choices
- Single-circuit vs three-circuit tracks (one scene vs multiple circuits on one rail)
- Beam angles & glare control for task vs accent lighting
- Dimming & colour temp to match the rest of your home
Security lighting with sensors
LED sensor floods and dusk-to-dawn fittings improve safety and energy use.
Options
- PIR (motion/heat) or microwave sensors (useful around corners/through some materials)
- Adjustable heads to aim light precisely
- Manual override for gatherings
- Colour temperature eg. for clear CCTV images
Garden & outdoor lighting (paths, steps, façades, trees)
Create depth and safety outside with low-voltage LED systems.
Design approach
- Layered lighting: Path lights for wayfinding; spike or in-ground uplights for trees; wall washers for façades; step lights for stairs.
- Low-voltage, IP-rated gear: Safer around pets/kids; weather-ready fittings and connections.
- Transformers & cabling: Sized properly for run length and load so everything stays bright and even.
- Control: Dusk sensors and timers, motion where useful (side gates, bins), or app control for scenes like “Entertaining” or “Lock-up”.
Common-area lighting (body corporate & strata)
Corridors, stairwells, lobbies, car parks - lighting must be reliable and efficient.
What we install
- Bulkheads, battens, and downlights chosen for durability (vandal-resistant options available)
- Microwave/PIR sensors and dusk sensors to cut bills without leaving areas dark
- Emergency & exit integration where required, with proper labelling and handover
- Smart scheduling for lobby highlights and signage illumination
We’ll recommend fittings with the right ingress protection and robust controls so managers get fewer callouts and better energy performance.
Feature & pendant lighting
The right pendant provides task light and a design lift.
We help with
- Heights & spacing: Typically 650–800 mm above benchtops; bedside pendants set for clear sightlines
- Canopies & reinforcement
Dimming & bulb choice (high-CRI LEDs so meals and materials look their best)
In-wall Wi-Fi smart switching (discreet modules)
Keep your existing switches and fittings, add smart control.
Why people love this
- Looks the same on the wall - smarts hide behind the plate
- App control, timers, scenes, remote access
- Voice-ready with popular ecosystems
- Neutral-wire solutions: We’ll check whether a neutral is present and design accordingly
What to expect (our process)
- Advice & design – We discuss how you use each space, then map layouts, colour temps, dimming, and controls.
- Clear quote – Transparent line items
- Licensed installation – Neat holes, tidy wiring, correct drivers/dimmers/sensors.
- Test & handover – We test, label, and show you how everything works; you receive the required compliance documentation.
- Aftercare – Thanks to plug bases, modular tracks, and smart controls, upgrades are easy.
FAQs
Can I change LED downlights myself later?
After we install plug bases with integrated LED fittings, like-for-like swaps are straightforward. Any new wiring or circuit changes must be done by a licensed electrician.
Will my old dimmer work with LEDs?
Not always. We specify LED-compatible dimmers to prevent flicker or buzzing.
How do WIR door-activated strips work?
We fit a magnetic reed or door-jamb switch so the strip comes on when the door opens and turns off when it closes. For open robes, we use micro-sensors with timed auto-off.
Are outdoor systems safe?
We use low-voltage, IP-rated fittings with sealed connections. Transformers are placed and sized correctly for long, even runs.
What’s the best control for common areas?
Usually microwave/PIR sensors with a dusk sensor or timer. This keeps areas bright when occupied and efficient when not.
Service area & timing
Based in Richmond, we service Melbourne’s inner suburbs and beyond. Halogen-to-LED swaps are often same-day; larger redesigns (tracks, strips, garden systems, common-area controls) are scheduled and staged clearly.
