Quad Power Points: A Safer, Cleaner Way to Add Outlets
Power boards solve a short-term problem but create long-term clutter. A quad power point puts four individually switched outlets on a single plate, giving you permanent capacity without the tangle.
At Blunt’s Electrical, we supply, install, test and label quad GPOs across inner-Melbourne (Richmond, Burnley, Abbotsford, Hawthorn, Kew, South Yarra, Prahran, St Kilda, Fitzroy, Collingwood and nearby suburbs). Every install is completed by a licensed electrician and tested to Australian Standards.
Why choose a quad GPO?
-
Less clutter, more capacity: Replace a power board with a single, flush-mounted plate.
-
Individually switched: Each outlet has its own switch for convenience and energy savings.
-
Cleaner look: Match your existing style/colour for a seamless finish.
-
Safer than daisy-chained boards: Reduces trip hazards and overheating risks.
-
Future-proofing: Great for spots that keep gaining gadgets—home offices, entertainment units, kitchens, workshops and vanities.
Best places to install one
-
Home office: Monitor, laptop dock, charger, lamp—no more board under the desk.
-
Media wall: TV, soundbar, set-top/streamer, console.
-
Kitchen: Benchtop appliances you actually use every day.
-
Workshop/garage: Charger, vacuum, tools and a spare.
-
Bedrooms/vanities: Hair dryer, straightener, toothbrush/charger.
What’s involved in a professional installation
-
Site check & placement: We confirm the wall type, cavity space and the best cable path; we also check for existing services.
-
Circuit assessment: We confirm capacity for the existing power circuit and RCD (safety switch) protection as required under AS/NZS 3000.
-
Supply & fit: We cut in the mounting hardware, run cable where necessary, and install the quad plate - horizontal or vertical to suit your space.
-
Testing & compliance: We test polarity, earth continuity, insulation resistance and RCD operation, then label as needed. In Victoria we issue a Certificate of Electrical Safety for the work.
-
Neat finish: We patch small pilot holes if used for cable routing and clean the area before we leave.
Tip: Planning a renovation? It’s cheaper and cleaner to add quads before you paint or tile.
Do I need a new circuit?
Often, a quad can go on an existing general-power circuit. If that circuit is already heavily loaded or lacks RCD protection, we’ll discuss options such as:
-
relocating to a better point on the run,
-
adding a new circuit from the switchboard, or
-
upgrading the switchboard/safety switches (if required for compliance or capacity).
You’ll get a clear, fixed quote before we start.
Quad vs. double vs. power board
-
Double: Fine for light, occasional use.
-
Quad: Best for permanent setups with three–four regular devices.
-
Power board: OK temporarily, but can look messy and invites overloads - especially when boards get daisy-chained.
How long does it take?
Most straightforward upgrades take about an hour per location. Allow more time if wall access is tight, the plate is moving to a new position, or a new circuit is required.
Pricing guidance
Costs vary with wall type, cable access, distance to supply, and switchboard condition. We keep it simple with fixed quotes after a quick site check (photo estimates are often possible). Multi-room installs are usually more economical per point.
Aftercare & warranty
We stand behind our workmanship and the products we install. If anything isn’t right, we’ll make it right. You’ll also receive your Certificate of Electrical Safety for your records.
